“When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself.
When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world.
Your innermost sense of self, of who you are, is inseparable from stillness.
This is the ‘I Am’ that is deeper than name and form.”
— Eckhart Tolle

How often do we find ourselves swept up in the noise of life—our roles, our to-do lists, the hum of expectation? It can happen without us even noticing. One moment we’re present, breathing, aligned… and the next, we’re caught in the whirlwind of the world, trying to keep up, prove ourselves, or manage everything at once.
This quote from Eckhart Tolle stopped me in my tracks. I’ve read it before, but recently it landed deeper. Because here’s the truth: when we disconnect from stillness, we disconnect from our truth. And when we disconnect from our truth, we begin to shape-shift to fit the world, rather than standing rooted in who we really are.
Stillness isn’t emptiness. It’s not passivity or detachment.
It’s the most alive, fertile space we can touch.
It’s the wellspring of wisdom, clarity, and intuitive knowing. It’s where the noise quiets enough for us to hear the voice within — the whisper of the “I Am” that Tolle speaks of.
The part of us that is deeper than name, title, role, or story.
This is where real power begins. Not in the hustle, but in the hush.
A Simple Practice: Coming Home to Stillness
If you’re feeling pulled in a thousand directions, here’s something gentle you can try. Just ten minutes — but it can shift everything.
The 10-Minute Stillness Practice
Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Sit or lie down comfortably. Let your hands rest softly, your jaw unclench, your shoulders drop.
Close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath. No need to change it — just notice it. Inhale. Exhale. Let each breath remind you that you’re here.
Feel into the space between breaths. The slight pause before you inhale again. That’s your entry point. Let yourself rest there.
As thoughts arise (and they will), greet them gently, and then return to the breath. No judgment. Just a soft return, like coming home.
After a few minutes, bring your awareness to the stillness beneath the surface. Beyond thought. Beneath emotion. The quiet space within. Just be there. No effort, no outcome. Just being.
When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Notice how you feel.
The world will always call us outward. But wisdom calls us inward. And the more we return to that inner stillness, the more we can live from a place that is grounded, present, and true.
Stillness is not a luxury. It’s a remembering. A homecoming. A sacred pause that allows us to realign with the deeper “I Am” — the unshakable self that exists beyond all roles, stories, and noise.
This week, give yourself the gift of that sacred space. Even just for a few minutes a day.
Because from that stillness, your real wisdom will rise.
